History of Lupin Limited 

Desh Bandhu Gupta founded Lupin in 1968. He was a professor of the chemistry subject at BITS-Pilani, Rajasthan. Desh Bandhu Gupta borrowed Rs. 5000 from his wife to fund this venture. Due to funding from the Central Bank of India, the company was able to start their manufacturing facility for producing iron tablets and folic acid for the Indian government  mothers and child health program. In 1988 Desh Bandhu Gupta founded the LHWRF (Lupin Human Welfare & Research Foundation) . 

Lupin joined the Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance in 1999 as a founding member.

Desh Bandhu Gupta the founder, died in 2017 and his wife, Manju Deshbandhu Gupta was replaced as chairman.

In October 2019, Lupin announced Sreeji Gopinatham as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) 

Lupin entered into an agreement to buy  French pharmaceutical company Mediso in May 2023.

Corporate social responsibility

The LHWRF (Lupin Human Welfare and Research Foundation) was launched in 1988. This project started with the aim of rural development projects focused on about 35 villages in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan. Later this project expanded to other states and regions. The initiative has so far reached more than 2.8 million people in more than 3,400 villages across eight states in India, that includes Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttarakhand and Goa. 

Lupine Foundation signed a statement of intent with the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) in July 2018, a policy think tank of the Government of India, to collaborate on the ASP and support the development of the three backward districts – Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh, Nandurbar in Maharashtra, and Dholpur in Rajasthan.
